The vicuña

Scientific name>: Vicugna vicugna.
Family: Camelidae.
Common names: Vicuña; wik'uña in Quechua. It has the finest wool in the world and was in danger of extinction due to indiscriminate hunting.
Habitat:
The vicuña is a native of the Andes of Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. In Peru they live in the wild in the mountainous steppe and Puna to the 5200 meters.
Hazard:
The vicuña is a species that is vulnerable in Peru, the law prohibits hunting throughout the Peruvian territory. At the beginning of the conquest there were about two million vicuña population today reaches only a hundred thousand. Currently protected in the Huascaran National Park and National Reserves of Junin, Ayacucho and Pampa Galeras in Salinas and Aguada Blanca Arequipa.
